Topics Of Study

The Important First Step In Your Grooming Journey:

Developed by International Master Groomer Angela Anderson (ICMG, NCMG), Foundations of Dog Grooming is a comprehensive introduction to dog grooming for

  • the beginner student looking to kickstart their grooming career

  • the novice groomer seeking further theoretical and technical support

  • self-taught groomers wanting to take their grooming to a professional level

  • or for any dog lover looking to up-skill

This five week beginner grooming course is designed to take each student through the fundamentals of dog grooming theory and technique, within a hands-on and detail-orientated framework. Comprised of key foundation topics essential for the modern groomer and delivered in an easy-to-follow format, this structured course lays a solid foundation on which to build your successful career in grooming.

Benefit from a positive and encouraging learning environment, where an intimate class size of four to five students assures you of personalised instruction and support to get the most out of your grooming education. Every class, after the first introductory session, sees students work on their own individual ‘student dog’ with step-by-step guidance from their informative teacher, applying course content in real time.

As well as covering beginner-level fundamentals of coat preparation, clipping and scissoring to industry best-practice standards, your dedicated teacher will also guide you through canine anatomy, the science of coat and skin, as well as canine behaviour, handling and well-being and how to apply this knowledge to your grooming. The course provides essential coverage on equipment use and maintenance and also explores helpful information and tips around the business aspect of grooming, as well as salient content on caring for and maintaining your physical and mental health as a groomer.

Upon course completion, students are able to produce a comfortable, tidy and safe dog groom, having been equipped with the tools to apply their newfound knowledge and know-how to the grooming environment. Students are also added to a private networking group, where they are further supported and able to stay in contact with their teacher and peers to share questions, experiences and enjoy the benefits of being part of a positive grooming community.

Our Priority Is Student Growth And Development:

Foundations of Dog Grooming is held in a professional grooming salon only a few kilometres from Perth’s Central Business District, with free onsite parking. Thanks to the after-hours nature of this course, students are exposed to a professional salon space conducive to learning, with none of the time pressures or deadlines associated with daily operations or customers. Taking the stress out of the learning environment is a great way to prevent future knowledge gaps and create the time and space necessary for each student to absorb course content and develop their skills, leading to a more positive transition to industry when ready.

Students are provided everything they need during the 5 week course to ensure they can remain focused solely on the course content. Just turn up to class in your comfortable clothes and closed-in shoes and all the essentials like high quality grooming tools, modern equipment, student dogs to practice on, even a grooming smock, will be provided for you.

Along with course materials, each student is also provided a high quality “Angels Intermediate level Student Scissor set” (straight, curved, thinner and comb in a carry case) for use during their course and beyond.

Thanks to CAGIA's collaboration with our friends at igroomhub, access to the igroomhub online course, 'Bather Brusher Skill Set', is also included in your CAGIA enrolment, at no extra cost.  This dynamic online course complements the hands-on and industry best-practise learning CAGIA offers on coat preparation, the needs of breeds, customer relations and correct techniques, to name a few, allowing students the opportunity of further acknowledgement with this industry-recognised qualification, endorsed by the IARC.  Students are encouraged to begin the online theory component of the course at home before commencing in the CAGIA classroom to ensure learning time is maximised, followed by an assessment of the practical elements of the igroomhub certificate by their CAGIA grooming tutor over the 5 weeks.  Upon successful completion, each graduate not only receives CAGIA’s Foundations of Dog Grooming certificate, confirming 90+ hours of professional learning and grooming, but also the 'Bather Brusher Skill Set' certificate, to significantly enhance each student’s credentials, boosting employability or impressing future clients.
